2014, Acrylic on Concrete
For fra¿ment William has inserted a traditional ‘white cube’ gallery in between two dilapidated conjoined rooms. The action ‘fetishizes’ the existing space and brings forward a new awareness of it’s sensual qualities. Visitors are encouraged to move from one side of the dividing lines to the other to question which portion of the room is intended for display.
William Erhardt Winter
is an American born artist living and working in Berlin, Germany. His work questions the tension between strategic process and reflexive mapping; between the ‘plan’ and the ‘event’ of the art object.
Themes arise and fade. Recognizable materials like birthday candles, astro-turf and drywall live next to abstraction speaking to the object-ness of the works and a disjunctive relationship between human activity to human thought.
